SONOMA, Calif. -- Tom Lehman was forced to withdraw from the Charles Schwab Cup Championship this morning with a family emergency.
Lehman's withdrawal leaves 29 players in the field for the opening round tomorrow. Lehman had qualified for this event after being 22nd on the money list through last week's AT&T Championship with $642,299.
As a result of Lehman's withdrawal, the winner of this year's event will receive 884 Charles Schwab Cup points and a check for $442,000. Four players have a chance to claim this year's Charles Schwab Cup -- Loren Roberts (2,458 points), Fred Funk (2,293 points), Bernhard Langer (2,110 points) and Jay Haas (1,856 points).
Prior to the withdrawal, Lehman was hoping to put the cap on a successful 2009 Champions Tour campaign at the Charles Schwab Cup Championship. His season included five top-10 finishes and one victory in just eight tournaments, most recently a tie for fourth place at the Administaff Small Business Classic two weeks ago. Lehman also competed in 10 PGA TOUR events in 2009, finishing 147th in the FedExCup standings.
